Sixth: Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Directorate:
The directorate shall be managed by an employee of at least the second level who holds a first university degree and has service in the field of the directorate’s work for a period of not less than 15 years.
The Directorate undertakes the following tasks:
- Conducting radiation surveys throughout Iraq.
- Conduct a radiation survey of sites that use radioactive or nuclear materials after accidents to ensure that the sites are free of traces of radiation and launch the site.
- Activating the early warning system, participating in the International Information Base for Nuclear and Radiological Incidents (IRMIS) system, and analyzing the data contained in the system.
- Participate in reviewing and updating the national emergency plan based on the radiological and nuclear threats and risks facing our country.
- Participate in preparing a database that includes the material, human and technical capabilities available to national authorities to confront radiological or nuclear emergencies.
- Review and evaluate site emergency plans for radiation practices.
- Participate in evaluating the reports of the initial accident reconnaissance team.
- Participate in the response teams for the various stages of the incident and provide specialized, qualitative support and recommendations to end the emergency in accordance with the Authority’s tasks.
- Recommending the adoption of data received from the International Data Center of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Organization for the purpose of analyzing and determining the nature of the event.
- Participation in the Unified System for Exchange of Information for Radiation Incidents and Emergencies (USIE).
- Preparing digital maps for all radiological surveys using MDS, GR460 mobile detection wheels and updating the radiological background map for all governorates of Iraq based on the GIS system.
- Preparing a database for seismic activity in the governorates of Iraq based on the seismic bulletin, studying rain forecasts, and preparing digital maps for them.
